25.5 weeks along now. It's been going by real fast. Almost too fast sometimes... And yet not fast enough.

Jackie took these photos of us and I love them. At first I was a little hesitant to ask because I thought it was a silly thing to do. But now that I have them I am so grateful. This is such a special time in our lives. There's this small window right before we have this baby. It freaks me out a little bit to think our lives are about to be turned upside down, or right side up... whichever way you look at it. It's this time where I want to remember every little thing about this pregnancy and never forget how special it is. I get goosebumps sometimes thinking how lucky we are to have a baby. The other day I was folding teeny tiny onesies and it hit me how much I already love this baby, and I cried. I can't even imagine the love I'll have for it when I can hold it in my arms. But until then, I'll just keep reminding myself how magical this time is and try to enjoy all the baby kicks and squirms.

Something good coming

It's hard to believe an entire year has gone by again. Man time flies!

Eric and I did so many great things that I want to remember, and sometimes this post is the only way I can do that. (this next year i'll hopefully document more throughout the year... cross your fingers).

We had lots of family get-togethers this summer. I got to see my great aunt Neva, and we had a tye-dye party at my parents this summer. We welcomed so many new babies to the family and traveled around seeing them. I went to girls camp this year and spent many hours prepping for it. Eric and I both went camping together as much as we could on the weekends and we went skiing on the 4th of July. A big number this year as Eric turned 30 and he also gave a very important speech for his work this spring. Eric went to Germany in February and Austria in October. I wanted to go somewhere too, so we both went to Bali for an amazing adventure for one last time of just the two of us. Yep, we announced we are having a baby in April, and decided it would be nice to bring someone along on our next travel adventure.

It's been a whirlwind this last year, and probably will be this year, but we are both looking forward to it. We are both beyond excited to have a baby and can hardly wait for it to arrive. Yay for new years and new goals and new adventures.

Baby announcement

We gave our family these cards on Thanksgiving. It was pretty fun to see them all open it and shout hooray. (poor dad thought we got a dog at first ;) oh Jim.)
Gosh it feels good to have it out in the open. Pregnancy is a whole different world I only thought I understood. It really is tough stuff, but amazing at the same time. It's great to have so many family and friends to give great advice and words of comfort. We feel very blessed.

We're so excited to be having a baby, not a puppy. :)

know it's a little late for this, but i felt like i should document it anyway. This year all i wanted for my birthday was a bike ride. And Eric granted my wish. It was great. Eric turned 30 this year so I gave him a bunch of things in the quantity of 30. He especially liked my tower of 30 Diet Mtn. Dews!!

Bali Adventure

After the long flights, lots of stress over Eric's passport, and a little bit of confusion with some hotels, we finally made it to Bali. It was quite the adventure, so read on if you like. And if you ever head that way yourself... let us know, we've got some great secrets for travelers.

Kuta: We landed at noon and took a nap. Jet lag. We finally got settled and walked out into town and hung out at the beach. Madness everywhere. Scooters gallore- i have not seen so many scooters in my life! and people selling things all along the streets, bombarding you. It was a bit of a headache after the long flights. So we grabbed some dinner and called it a day. I wouldn't really recommend spending much time in Kuta unless your Australian and like to party.

Nusa Dua: The next day we headed to a beautiful part of the island that was meant for the ritzy. The beach was covered with fancy hotels for miles. So we found our own spot and camped out. We walked down the beach to a "waterblow" which was a really cool way to get drenched by the ocean, and wandered around some temples. Then headed out to Uluwatu, a sacred temple on the cliffs. You have to wear a sarong anytime you enter the temples, so we had to purchase one for Eric. Our first encounter with monkeys was out there. They just do their thing and if you bother them, they will let you know. The sunset was amazing there.

Ubud: The next day we headed out to Ubud. A little touristy, but so beautiful up in the jungle part of the island. We wandered around the markets for a few hours and then went to our hotel. Let me just tell you- the hotels in Bali are awesome!! Cheap, fancy, awesome service, and all include nice breakfasts and luxurious pools. You will not be disappointed if you end up in any Bali hotel.

We spent a few days in Ubud and went on a little hike through some rice fields, went to some Balinese dances, and then went on an elephant ride. We really like the elephant ride. They took good care of the animals and we were really impressed with the way they ran the park. We also met up with Eric's high school friend and her family living in Ubud. It was cool to hang out with them for the evening and they shared a little bit more about the way of living there. We also walked through Monkey Forest. Dense jungle with tons of monkeys roaming around.

Candi Dasa: Beach time. We planned a few days out on the beach and booked a hotel right along the shore. We had a sweet little bungalow with a shower outside and a pool over looking the ocean. We were lazy there. I read three books. We went snorkeling, found "White Sands Beach" and drank from a coconut. mmmm.

One morning Eric and I went running. Not only did we get chased by millions of dogs, buy we got to our turning point and found a cluster of monkeys. We didn't think they'd bother us too much, so we started to walk amongst them. Bad idea. They attacked. We were now being surrounded by hissing, sharp dagger teeth monkeys. Eric kicked one when it advanced. Then we booked it. I have never ran so fast in my life!!! We decided we do not like monkeys. period.

Lake Batan: The last part of our adventure was definitely the most authentic. We headed to the mountains next to the lake where they get their "holy water". It was real there. We were in a small village where they don't really like tourists and we got to peek inside the real culture. It was pretty neat to learn so much about their history and experience some authentic meals. (um yeah, i totally ate that piranha-like fish on that plate. I was proud of myself :)) We also went biking (where i had to wear a sarong again... not fun) and canoeing on the holy lake. We also met the only Americans from our entire trip, and in our tour group. Americans just do not go to Bali... so we all got along really well, and it was actually kind-of sad to say goodbye.

Singapore: We planned our last day in Singapore. We were pretty tired so we decided to just walk around and see the city at our own pace. We had a Subway sandwich- the best i've ever had. :) Singapore is really fun. Big city, lots to do, clean, friendly, and very rich! They had a free concert out on the water that night so we hung out for awhile. It was quite a treat after the long 2 weeks staying in a somewhat 3rd world country.

The flight home was brutal. I didn't sleep, got sick with some kind of bug, and had serious jet lag when we got home. To work the next day and Eric started school. It was a good week before I fully recovered.

wilderness girls

A couple of weeks ago we had girl's camp in our ward. I got to go up for most of it and be with some fun teenagers. It was a bit weird because that's where i went as a young woman. . . and 10 years later i went as camp director. I sure have a new appreciation for the other side of it as a leader. But hanging out in the mountains together wasn't so bad. I refined my bracelet skills, learned how to wake a cabin of teenage girls to be on time for stuff, and made a smore or two. And it brought me back to the simple things like sitting on your sleeping bag having a good talk or laugh with the girl next to you, and sharing your headlamp while singing a hymn at night. I thoroughly enjoyed myself. I think i owe these girls.

We plucked our first lime of the year from our little lime tree, Linus. (Yes, we named him). And we thought it appropriate to celebrate the grand event, so we put the little lime in a diet coke. So tasty.
This summer has been crazy busy for us. I don't think i've ever wished a summer to go by quicker. But I'm sure if you were in our shoes you'd probably feel the same way. Plus, our big vacation is at the end of the summer and we are counting down the days... Yippee!
And for some reason, amidst all the chaos, our garden has grown like a champ. Our tomato plants are giants and we've got onions coming out our ears. Not really sure what we're doing right, but it sure makes me smile. I love green things.

It's not very common to ski on the 4th of July, so we took advantage and went skiing in our shorts up to Snowbird. It was really fun. If it happens again, I would really recommend it to anyone

Another sister had a baby in our family. That's 4 in the last 8 months and another one on the way. This Proctor clan is gettin' big! Steph invited us all out to Colorado for the baby blessing and I finally got to meet this chunker Colby. He is the most cuddly baby ever. I miss him already. Please come visit me Colby!

Eric and I went to Idaho for the weekend and spent some time with his brother Justin and his family. It is beautiful up there. They live where the air is clean and the land is spacious and you can sit on your porch and hear only the crickets at night. (I'm a little jealous). We got up early and rode our bikes for a couple hours. It was so peaceful. (except for when the scary dogs would chase us down the road). Yikes! Thanks guys, for letting us visit your beautiful home.

We found some cool buildings in this little town, so we had to snap some pictures.

And one of my sweetest gal pals got married in Logan on Saturday. Which brought Aubree from California! Yay. I love these girls sooo much! Jessie's one of the last of our friends to get married, and it made me think a lot about how lucky I was to have such good friends growing up. I was totally bummed that I forgot my camera battery, but Eric was able to snap some pictures with his phone.

I thought Jessie's wedding dress was the cutest I've ever seen, you'll just have to take my word for it. And the "black pearl" story she shared made me cry... their love is so strong, I am so happy for her. I really enjoy going to weddings. It unavoidably makes you remember your own wedding, and makes you realize how much love you have for someone.

I smiled when I heard that William and Kate danced to this on their wedding day.

Momma Proctor rented an old home at This is The Place Heritage Park up in SLC. We celebrated Easter there with the family. A petting zoo, pony rides, crafts, train ride, and a giant egg hunt. I thought it very fitting to be amongst our roots as a Church. Those pioneers traveled so far because of their strong belief. . . that our Savior lives. It made me think about Easter a little bit differently. A good different.

Eric and I got a little competitive when we were assigned to bring fruit trays to baby Sam's blessing. I have my opinion, but who do you think should be the champ?
Also, I would like to introduce you all to The Archer's Apple in case you haven't heard of them. Matt, who used to play the drums in Eric's band, got together with his cousin and started playing in his band. I love this video and music. It is raw and simple and everything I love in a good acoustic set. They are sweet.

Sometimes life's a swirl of color

This is one of the books I've designed lately. It's a true story of a family that lived in Sumatra during WWII. They were taken captive and held in a Japanese prison camp. The family helps each other through this difficult time while growing closer to each other and to God. I don't know how it ends yet, but I can't stop thinking about it and all the lessons I've learned so far.
Lots of changes have been happening around us lately. So many dear friends and family are going different directions in life right now and big decisions are being made. All this makes me stop and think about my little life and the way it is moving. It makes me wonder the impact I have on other people's lives.

A dear friend told me a few months ago to just know this: that my Heavenly Father loves me. I found it very comforting, and those simple words have affected me more than I thought they would. As long as we understand that simple principle then we can do or get through anything.

He's back! Eric was crazy busy in Germany, but he did manage to snap a few photos for me. I love this photo of a barn where you can see Zugspitze, the highest peak in Germany. Such a cool little town in the middle of the Alps. Eric mostly loved his ski time, eating delicious crepes, and trying out some tasty brats while he had the chance without me saying 'nah, let's eat something else'.

I was just glad to have him back. And that armful of chocolate sure made him even more huggable. mmmm. I love Milka.

This breakfast was yummy. I made it for Eric when he had to work at 3am to cover the races in Europe. This month can be a very stressful time for us because we have opposite schedules. Eric is so busy on the weekends, while I'm busy during the week. But one thing that helps is making meals together. We like to cook in the kitchen together and try new things. It's a good way to catch up and sit down and relax. Some might find it silly, but it works for us.

Sam arrived Tuesday. Eric and I were lucky to go and meet him that night. He is so precious. Jackie and Kyle are proud parents yet again to another darling baby.

2010 was good

2010 was good to us. It brought so many wonderful memories to treasure. Eric went to the Olympics in Vancouver to work and I got to visit him. We skied our hearts out that winter, and then got on our bikes when the weather permitted and rode some beautiful rides. We went to Lake Powell and Moab with the Proctor clan, and then Eric and I went to Jackson and hiked the Tetons. We hopped over to Colorado a few times and also went to our first rodeo together. I ran a half marathon in October and won women's overall for our small triathlon we do every year Kamas. Eric and I ran the MudRun with some friends in Midway. We went to a few outdoor concerts and watched the Jazz any chance we could. We finished our basement- Well, mostly Eric finished the basement, and we worked on some projects around the house. We both helped each other through our busy seasons of work and made some delicious meals together.

All these adventures and memories, and I'm so glad I have someone I love that I can share them with. That's what makes me the happiest.

Here's to a good 2011. . .

Christmas over here

We've been out on the slopes this winter break. It's been especially fun to have family around to ski with, like those Californians, Nate and Katie.

Eric decorated our lime tree this year. (We got it this fall, and it's been growing like a champ.) We made salsa for neighbors, gave paperwhites to friends, and I had a little too much fun wrapping gifts this year.

We had some friends over for a "some people wear Christmas sweaters, boys too cool to." and played games, ate treats and got to see Aubree's baby boy Sam. Winner of the best Christmas sweaters goes to Jackie's "Christmas cat" and Aubree's "Because I'm the mom, that's why" (Wish I would have taken pictures of them.)

Oh, and the ugly doll in the back is what Eric got as a white elephant gift. Thanks Care and Grant. :)

Rocky Mountain High

Eric has had a long couple of weeks. He's been in Colorado covering the World Cup. I got to stay with him in Aspen for the long Thanksgiving weekend, then took a long train ride back to Utah to be alone for a week - until Eric could rejoin me.
Aspen was so neat. You could see the race hill from the little village, and hear all the cow bells jangling. Aspen was like a Christmas wonderland: snow, skiing, hot cocoa, hot tubs, warm socks, and lots of Christmas lights at night in a little town.

This is a shot from Eric. He was allowed to go down the race course before the events. Sometimes they are VERY icy and steep... makes me wonder how those racers go down the hill 80+ miles per hour. Yikes!

Dear Eric,
Thank you for giving me a victory hug when the Jazz beat the Heat last night. I love how you have turned me into a Jazz fan, Giants fan, Phil Mickelson fan, and Lindsey Vonn fan. I smiled when I came home from work yesterday- you were working in the yard wearing your "lumberjack" shirt. You always stop the lawn mower to come give me a kiss. I appreciate that. :) Thank you for putting your books away to help me make dinner... cuz let's be honest, you're better at it than me. What did I do right to get three Saturdays of you making me breakfast? I think you turned me into a winter lover. My cold feet are eternally grateful to be warmed under your legs at night, even though i know you hate it. Thank you Eric for making me a more positive person. I love empanadas too. I am a better person because of you. And a better skier.

We both had birthdays this fall. Eric was very kind to me and spoiled me a bit too much. (I was ok with it though). We spent the weekend up in Park City to celebrate both birthdays since they are only a couple weeks apart. Dinner at Zoom... so Eric could get some ceviche that is soooo divine there. Gallery stroll, Trolly ride, a run through the country side in the morning and plenty of zzzz's. Perfect.
I can hardly believe we are the age we are. Not that we don't deserve it. But time is flying by. I am so grateful for Eric, he means the world to me and every year I love him more.
We both had great birthdays this year with lots of love from family and friends. We are blessed.

Jackson Town

Surprise Lake, Teton National Park. Wyoming

Eric and I ventured up to the Tetons a couple of weekends ago. We grabbed our gear and headed into "bear country". The hike was up to a beautiful lake. It was pretty steep and long, so we were exhausted when we got to camp. We made a simple yet tasty dinner next to the lake as the sun set, and then crawled into our sleeping bags around 8:30. We haven't been to bed that early for years... and it was sooo nice. Woke before the sun broke over the peaks and headed up to another lake in the quiet morning. We were suddenly surrounded by deer- they didn't seem to care we were there. It was so peaceful to be high up in the mountains and enjoy all the surroundings with E.roy. I felt completely recharged.

Jackson was/is always a fun spot to hang out. We explored it for an evening and then went river rafting down the Snake the next day. It was a delightful trip. (glad we didn't run into any bears).

I don't know where, but our summer has gone somewhere. It has slipped us by. I feel like life is moving so quickly these days. Maybe it's because there is too much to do and too little time... the never ending story. Maybe it's because we're excited for the fall. Maybe it's because the older you get, the faster time flies. It's probably all of those reasons and mostly the fact that we've both been through a very busy season... and now we can finally kick off our shoes and relax. Hopefully. Regardless, the summer is almost gone, and I can hardly believe it.

The Music of the Night

Last weekend Eric and I went down to Las Vegas to celebrate our anniversary (a month late). But much needed after a crazy winter for Eric. The food was great, and oh, the warm weather! Plus, we finally got to see The Phantom of the Opera, which has been on Eric's to-do list since he first heard his buddy was a lead role in it four years ago. And it was great. I love that musical, I walked around for days singing all the songs. (poor eric)

Some odd things we found out later... 1. The hour after the show that we walked around the strip just so happened to be the exact time they did their annual "Earth Hour" and everything was turned off/shut down. (of course)2. Our good friends happened to be in Vegas that exact same time- how random.

Life in 3-D

Life has been a little crazy these days. Between working all day, and lots of the weekend, working on the house, and church callings, we rarely have time to just chill. So it was nice to go see a movie together. we rarely go to the movies, especially 3-D movies. So we saw Avatar. I liked it. But mostly I liked looking over at Eric during the movie with his ginormous glasses on, and laughing. And turning around to see everyone else with these ridiculous glasses on staring at the screen. I laughed so hard that night. And we looked like dorks. hah.
Maybe life will calm down in a couple weeks and we can go for a bike ride. That would be nice.

Ah, we're getting pretty excited for the Olympics around here. Eric will be gone for the next three weeks, and then i'll go meet up with him over the weekend. We've never been to Vancouver, but we've heard it's beautiful. I've always wanted to see those beautiful ski-destination mountains in Whistler, and I'm even more excited to be cheering our home boy on, Steven Nyman. He races on Saturday. Wish him luck, He is one fast skier!

found this picture of when Eric was younger. Probably high school. After a couple years of marriage i think i understand his passion for skiing a little better. I can just picture him and his buds sitting around waiting for the first snow of the year, devising plans to get the most skiing in each week. Goggle tan lines, hours spent waxing and tuning, skip-school powder days, living the dream. He makes me chuckle.

We are big fans of the snow. Especially skiing... It makes the winter months go by so much better. I love to get up in the mountains- no matter what the activity is. Brett and Selena took little Madi up skiing to Sundance. I'm sure it was funny to see her pink, puffy body do the "pizza" and me try to stop her from shooting down the mountain, while i tried with all my might to do snow plow behind her. I never knew skiing with a kid attached to you could be so exhausting! A great bum workout fyi :)

Winter Wedding

There is something so lovely about winter weddings. I love the brightness of them in those dead, cold months. Thanks to one of my dearest gal pals, i was able to attend one. Carrie and Grant got married in December, but i was finally loading my pictures and could not stop thinking about it, so here it is. The love birds were meant for each other. Cheers to a life of happiness together. We love you guys.

*Isn't Carrie's dress gorgeous? I thought everything came together so nicely. Colors, hair, flowers, dress, etc. I just wish i would have taken more pictures.

2009 Recap

Great memories this past year. Eric and i celebrated our one year anniversary, we went skiing and biking as much as we could, i graduated from college, we went of some fun road trips, met our new nieces and nephews, went to some best friend's weddings, competed in races, watched our fair share of Jazz games, Went to some great gigs of Eric's band, family outings, Eric caught the fishing bug, i got a new job, we both got excited about remodeling our house, Eric went to France and Canada, I missed him, We learned how to cook some foreign foods, and started a search for the perfect puppy for our family.

I get a little teary eyed when i think about the past. Memories are so wonderful. I love reminiscing about all the good things in our lives. It's so easy to think about the negative. That's why i think this holiday is so wonderful. We remember the good and reach for the better. Bring on 2010.

Sundance opened for night skiing this year. We went opening night- and LOVED it! This will be perfect

for us since we both work all day. coming home and still being able to get some runs in will be so nice.

WORLD CUP

I got to meet up with Eric in Beaver Creek for the World Cup last weekend. It was really good to finally see what Eric's work is all about. There's only one World Cup in the U.S. - so I had to go. We even got a little skiing in.

This year Eric had to go to Lake Louis to cover the World Cup. So I made him a little Thanksgiving dinner on Sunday, and we got to eat some turkey turkey. Eric will be gone for 2 weeks! :( Boo. He knows it's hard for me, so he left a little treasure hunt each day. A clue on the Christmas tree leading to a small note and prize. (I guess this was something his mom used to do for him when he was a little lad during the Christmas holiday.)
I don't know how long it took him to put this together for his sad and lonely wife, but it sure does make her day. and i am so grateful for it.

on this special day, i am so very grateful for family, friends, good health, and a husband that I love to the blue blue sky! Happy Thanksgiving.

This time of year is hard to get used to... with the sun coming up later, and the day getting dark by 6pm. I always have trouble with it.

This year i decided to switch my schedule up a bit so that i can get home earlier to enjoy some sunlight. (My office doesn't have windows. boo.) Hence, Saturdays turn out to be extra special.

But Eric and I do enjoy the dark evenings- it forces us to stay inside and get things done, like clean our house. And write this post :) Any good ideas of fun things to do indoors?

Halloween started out with a bang this year in the form of a race. A Halloween half marathon. Dressing up is part of the deal. Yippee! (Jess, I think people are catching on to the dress-up race that you promote every year.)

Well the race was down provo canyon, and it turned out to be perfect weather.
Then, of course dressing up for a Halloween party. Jackie and Kyle came up with a great idea. They put a lot of time into making a scavenger hunt throughout Orem of all the creepy places. Ted Bundy. Yikes! We all raced around Orem to get the tokens of each spot. It was lots of fun.

Little Jamison turned 8 this weekend. And he was baptized. What a great cousin he is to all the little ones. I'm sure they all look up to him. and he's such a little gentleman. congrats buddy. Eric had to work for his birthday. He had to cover the Hootenanny Fundraiser in Park City. It was ok though cuz there was a mechanical bull and a delicious BBQ. Plus, the dress code turned out to match our attire for later that evening- the Lyle Lovett and John Hiatt concert. (Eric's always wanted to see Lyle perform.) I loved it too if that even matters. Both guys up on stage acoustic style with the most handsome voices. I didn't know John wrote a bunch of songs for Bonnie Raitt and Emmy Lou Harris. (some of my favorites.) If you get the chance you should listen to them. So of course-we went home with inspiration to pull out the guitar and uke:)

Older and Wiser

Last week we celebrated my birthday up at Sundance. It was beautiful up the canyon with all the leaves changing and the air getting crisper. This is my favorite time of year. Not only is it gorgeous outside, but i get presents too:)

I think I need to always live close to the mountains... they've been part of my life for 24 years. Now how could I abandon them?

Eric and I went for a quick weekend trip to San Francisco. We met up with his parents out there- they had arrangements to stay in an apartment with a sweet view- which is what sealed our decision to go. Free place to stay in downtown SF? Of course! And I think I love it there. I've only been there twice (both in the last few months). I'm becoming quite attached. Which is fine.

It was fun being with this boy all weekend. Sure do love him.
We had lunch with Eric's uncle Paul, and finally got to meet his darling new wife.

Ride On

Eric and I love riding our bikes. It makes us soooo happy. I always get a little sad around this time of year since I know these riding days are numbered. So we're trying to soak it all up.

We are debating whether we are strong enough to do a whole century ride this fall. It will be our first, and we don't have a lot of time to train. Are we crazy to even think we can? Anyone have any suggestions or helpful hints?

We went on a little hike with the fam Monday morning. I decided that it's nice to have little kid company on hikes - they notice all the details and they aren't in a hurry to get to the destination. That's my kind of hike.

A Maiden Voyage

This was our first Lake Powell trip as a Proctor family. There were some bumps as we expected, but just bumps. The rest was a dream.

Lots of kids to play with, and two dogs:) We were lucky to get everyone down there (minus 4, plus a few.) Which is quite a feat with our Ginormous family... and it's still growing!

Brett and Selena spoiled us all with their generosity. They provided all the toys. Jackie took us to a sweet cave (she was/is a Lake Powell gal) and we did some serious exploring.

Wake surfing was tried and defeated by Brett. Eric showed us his slolom skills. And Nate and Brock rock climbed our campsite landmark.

What a beautiful place to spend some quality time with family. Lake Powell really is magical. There's no place like it, and we live so close. How lucky we are. Auvoir, Until next year!

remember our old kitchen... all brown?Well, after many hours of sanding and painting/staining and installing, we have a lovely new place to dance in our socks.

We sanded and painted the cabinets and installed knobs
Sanded the floor and re-stained it a dark brown.
Painted the walls yellow and the countertop backboard brown.

Gone West

Eric and I went on a giant road trip last week. It was fun to see lots of places and spend a whole week with each other... and the car. (What a champ she was.) I was the queen of keeping the ice in our cooler cold and un-melty and Eric was the king of finding cheap gas. We made a great team.

Idaho: We drove into Twin Falls late in the evening after seeing a beautiful sunset. It was too dark to find anything, so we just pulled over and slept in the back of our subaru. In the morning we realized we were right next to Malad Gorge State Park, so we took a moment to enjoy the view.

Bend OR: Very confusing freeway system. (Why would anyone name two roads parallel to each other the exact same?) The city was absolutely gorgeous though. Eric and I kept commenting on their clean building codes. We found a local taco place and ate our dinner in one of the prettiest parks i've seen. (I would love to live in one of those little homes next to the pond.)

We stayed there one night and then I ran my marathon in Sunriver, which is 15 minutes south of Bend. If you haven't been there, you must. It is absolutely beautiful there. And I was lucky to have Eric run the last 6 miles with me. What a pal he is.

Portland: We met up with some friends in Portland... and we got spoiled by them. (I would recommend staying with them if you ever visit Portland:)) We went to church with them and then rode our bikes around the city and checked out the boardwalk. Saralynn was an amazing cook- I couldn't get over it.

Eugene OR: Eric went to the campus to meet with a professor about grad school. I rode my bike back and forth from the motel room. sweet. We didn't have a whole lot of time there, so we just checked out the University and had a delicious lunch at another pretty park. (Oregon is where it's at for parks)

The Coast: We drove the 101 down the Oregon coast and stayed in a funny little campground with horses and dogs with many people living there. good times. It was just outside Crescent City- which was kind of a mysterious place. We both felt like it was kinda abandoned and eery. Then we woke up and drove ALL DAY LONG! We connected to highway One and took that down to Bodega Bay and Stinson Beach. The "One" wasn't all it's cracked up to be- but maybe that's just cuz we were so sick of driving.

Muir Woods: Eric made me get out of the car and walk through the giant Redwoods. We both kept saying ooo and ahhh, at those giants. I felt like dancing in the forest. So I did.

San Francisco: We started the day out right visiting a friend at the Oakland Temple, and then taking the Bart into San Fran. We brought our bikes, so we ended up riding around the entire city. Delicious clam chowder, riding over Golden Gate, cruising Sausalito, taking a ferry by Alcatraz, dinner in China Town, dessert at Ghirardelli, and cruising back to Fremont. Five stars for the day.

Yosemite: Haha we found out later that we misplaced a day, so we didn't get to spend much time in Yosemite. What a bummer. But we did walk around and get an ice cream cone. There were masses of people though... very annoying. We ended up driving through the prettiest place known to man. A joy ride.

Lake Tahoe: I would drive back there in a heart beat. I fell in love with Lake Tahoe. So pretty, but always full of vacationers. Eric and I found a campground at 9:00, set up our tent, and then found a pizza joint at 9:30. (That's usually how it goes when you're on a road trip.) We woke up and went for a lovely ride. Then took a bath in the lake.

We got in the car at 11:00 am and drove through that desert Nevada and the Salt Flats of Utah, finally getting home at 7:30 pm.

This past weekend we went to Logan for my good friend's wedding. The weather was perfect, the tulips were in full bloom, I got to see all my great friends, and we even got to visit with Eric's brother and his family outside of Logan. But it was so wonderful to be there for Camie and Nick's wedding. It was so lovely.I took a lot of pictures because i just couldn't get over how creative it was. Those two have great artistic taste. Their wedding was so unique... They did it around birds and feathers. Everything was in shades of blue with feathers in the bride's maid's hair and birds hanging behind the line. Nick painted some neat paintings that really added to the room. My favorite part was the two little love birds in a white cage. So cool, I loved it!

A College Grad?

wow, today was the big day. I graduated from UVU in the school of the arts, emphasis in graphic design.

This week was so stressful. It feels good to finally have it all over with. A lot of family came to support me. I felt bad they had to sit through it all. But we all went out to lunch after. :) I'm so lucky to have received an education. Glad i can chill in the evening now, instead of always having things to do or work on. I must admit, it feels pretty good.

Last week we celebrated the 1 year mark! I know, a whole year has passed since our rainy wedding day. Seems like getting married was biggest event i'd do in my life, and now it was just a stepping stone.

Before now:

One of our first dates at the top of Bear Claw for a ski patrol dinner. I remember I was so nervous around all those strangers. Eric always introduced me to everyone- (a quality i love about him.)

I didn't kiss him for a long time, and then I didn't say I loved him for an even longer time. Oh the dating game. But one day I just realized that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with him and everything clicked... he was my man. :)

I'm so lucky to be married to someone I love so much, and that he includes me in everything he does. He's just the best... he's my man.

I'm back. and so is Eric! Sorry to not inform you that he returned home safe and sound, with plenty of chocolate.

I was so lucky to get my Royboy back- on Valentines night. What the perfect gift. And I will admit that I missed him more than I thought... so I took a "vacation" and caught up on life with that boy.

Here's what he was up to in France:

But Eric did work very hard. These are only some of the "fun" pictures he has. The rest are of him in the press room and in the chateau and on bus rides.

He got to meet all those great athletes like Lindsay Vonn and Ted Ligety. He did a really cool story on a skier from Napal.

An experience of a lifetime. And I'm very glad he's back.

Today was a sad day for me. My best bud left me for ten whole days!
Eric is in Val d'Isere France covering the world cup. He is going to have so much fun in that BEAUTIFUL country. (i should have snuck in his bag when i had the chance.) But eric knew i was going to be sad so he made me an egg count down. YES! I don't know what the eggs are all about, but i sure am excited to open one every day. :) What a pal he is.

Finally i got to spend some time with my roy boy. Eric has been sooo busy with work- and now that i'm just as busy, i'll take any chance I can to hang out with him.

So today we went to the O.R. show. i thought it was sweet- all those companies individually advertising in their own little area. and a fun atmosphere around outdoorsy people. This little group was really cool that i found. We walked out of there with tons of reading for the next year and a picture of my trusty coat, monty.

We walked all over in the rain (and gave the missionaries some granola bars) on our way to find a yummy soup place, and ended up at Tony's with eric's favorite meatball sandwich. I love being with eric, regardless of what we do- even if it's walkin around in the rain.

i'm really sad that we've almost finished listening to this. after 2 months... what am i gonna do?

Pepsi 2008

I know this has been in affect for two months now, but I finally saw it on the shelf today. I'm not sure what i think about it, so i'm going to pretend i'm in one of my branding classes and give it a good critique.

I think they did a good job totally distinguishing themselves completely separate from Coke. Coke owns the color red and uses a classic font, keeping them tied to their roots. Pepsi on the other hand has now made the jump to be all navy blue. It also has a very modern sans-serif font to look more hip- for the younger generation it seems (which may be good, to finally cater to different audiences). I think the contrast in these two companies was necessary, but i think Pepsi could have done a better job... it looks almost like a discount store brand.
AND... why did they mess with the logo? I heard that it's meant to reflect a smile, but it's completely different from before. The "e" in the new design reflects that of the old squiggle... so it's a little confusing there.
Hmmph.

I'm not a big drinker of any soda, so i'm not sure why they would spend north of a million dollars on this whole rebranding. It's a little crazy if you ask me.

What a wonderful year. We got married, i learned how to play the uke. Eric and i went to Mexico and Peru. We traveled all over southern Utah. Went on many bike rides and participated in many races and went skiing. Eric's band played a lot. We enjoyed our first garden, and learned how to can. And had many fun family get-togethers. Oh i loved 2008.

PERUSING

Day 1: we got into Cusco early Friday morning and headed up to a little school in the mountains. that's where we dropped off our kits of school supplies for the munchkins. they were so excited. I couldn't really communicate, so i was very grateful to have eric by my side. I was so humbled by their lifestyle. these people have absolutely nothing, and are the sweetest on earth. I would love to donate to the school again. (it's called Peru's Challenge- you can read all about their project.)

Day 2: We walked around Cusco and checked out the museums and cathedrals... and slept. (we had long plane rides and didn't get much sleep the last two days.) Cusco is an amazing city... with 11,000 ft in elevation.

Day 3: Sunday. we went to a cusco church. It was neat to meet the missionaries and watch the young women put on a sacrament program. (thanks eric for translating for an hour... even though natural divinity is supposed to be divine nature... ha.) Then we went to a little town called Pisac and found this amazing market. it was huge. there was so much handmade stuff your eyes would fall out. and i got sick on the bus ride back. sweet.

Day 4-5: Machu Picchu! yay. We took a 3 hour train ride to Aguas Calientas and started our hike around 10am. the trail was very steep. we hiked for 7 hours with a lunch break, and a guided tour through some terraces we fell upon. Our guide was very nice. He took pictures of us and showed me 100 orchids along the way. we got to the sun gate and to see Macchu Picchu from a different view that not many people get to see. It was absolutely unreal. i wanted to cry. the vastness of it was breathtaking. there were clouds hanging around us and the sun was starting to set. I can not even tell you what it was like- you will just have to go experience it yourself.

We stayed in the little town (aguas calientas) along the river that night. (it reminded me of my little town Ketchikan) I think it was my favorite of the whole trip. (and if i went back i would stay there the longest amount possible.) We checked out Macchu Picchu again the next day, and hiked up Wyna- picchu way faster than was told it would take, probably because we were so buff from our hike before. :) (that is a sweet view as well)

Our train ride home we met a fun LDS family picking up their son. we talked to them the whole way back. what a small world.

Day 6-9: the jungle. We got up and flew to Puerto Maldonado. then we took a river boat to Corto Maltez (a sweet jungle resort) they fed us every meal- absolutely delicious. and took us on fun adventures everyday. we saw crazy monkeys on monkey island and hiked out to a lake and went piranha fishing. We saw lots of jungle animals and went caiman hunting at night. We stayed in a fun bungalow with hammocks on the porch and bug nets around our bed. But don't expect to sleep past 5am with the birds squakin.

Day 10: Lima. we met up with the Chinchays (family friends). They took us around Lima. we went to the beach, to the park, the plaza, and then to the temple. The temple was such a neat site. people caravaned from all over Peru to get there. it was like a mini temple square in the middle of this crazy city. it made me appreciate my home/ life once again. Marilou and Marisol were the cutest. i'm so glad i finally got to meet them. I just wish i could have communicated with them better.

I had so much fun Perusing with E.Roy. i came home with an even greater appreciation for my life and all that i have. It made me want to speak another language, and see more of the world. We had a great time. But thank goodness for coke and chess, huh Eric?

Art for the Andes

Peru 8 Days: Llama or Alpaca

I was wondering the difference between these two animals, and i thought that maybe i should get it figured out before I go and see them in their homeland.
Llamas on the left, alpacas on the right.
Llamas are bigger- longer neck and legs. Alpaca have smaller ears as well.
The llamas are used for transportation and work because of their size. Alpaca stay home and grow the fleece.

I just found out about these two sisters from Sweden who call themselves First Aid Kit. Where have i been? Their music is so freakin good. Watch out for them. I don't think Eric would mind if i download all their music.

Christo and Jeanne's New Project

In my art history class we learned about Christo's art and his new project. I have always liked his art because it is so different. "The effect is astounding. To be in the presence of one of these artworks is to have your reality rocked. You see things you have never seen before. You also get to see the fabric manifest things that cannot usually be seen, like the wind blowing, or the sun reflecting in ways it had not before." Their next project is in Colorado (Steph, you should go help them put it up... they will be hiring soon.) It looks awesome. It's going to be over the Arkansas River. sweet.

(If I had to plan the Olympic ceremonies I would hire these guys.)

This last week i was a stress-mess with midterms. Projects due, and a giant art history test. Eric was a good sport about me doing homework all day and night long- we didn't have much of a life this week. Anyway, with all the crazies that went on this week, i smiled so big when eric rescued this little family of butternut squash from our garden.

Benefit Concert

This weekend Eric and I are having a benefit concert for "Art for the Andes."
For my senior studio class, I have to do a giant project all semester long with my design skills being incorporated into the project. I decided to do a fund raiser for Peru because Eric and I have a trip planned there at the end of the semester. We are making school kits for the children in Cuzco. The name of the organization is called "Art for the Andes." I am going to make a work booklet and gather school supplies that will all go into a screen printed bag that will be delivered to all the little ninos there.
We are having the concert in the William's backyard- with Eric's band playing and other friends. There will be yummy refreshments and an auction with sweet prizes. Everyone should come- it's only $3.00 to get in and $10.00 for family.

This guy is amazing!! He builds mural mosaics. The mural is created out of original art without any special effects. He uses hundreds of paintings to create one final masterpiece. His name is Lewis Lavoie and you can find more of his work here.

I woke up this morning to the rain pouring down. It was cold out and i was glad to be toasty warm. I had no intention of going outside at all today. We were going to go for a beautiful hike or a long ride. But not today. The rain came down all day long. Some of it just drizzles. It was wet wet wet. Then i realized there was a herd of people running their butts off down in St. George. wow. good for you people. My hats off to you Kell! Good job.
